Friday Facts 2009-09-25 FRIDAY FACTS
BCA’s Weekly Newsletter
September 25, 2009
Dear Friends,
God continues to shower the school with His favor. Indeed, the Lord is our Shepherd. We are grateful for His blessings of safety and health as we care for our precious students. This week’s issue of the Friday Facts includes a focus on those practices that will continue to keep our students safe and healthy.
A BIG thank you goes to all those who came for the "Old Fashioned Outdoor Movie." It was a fun evening and something we will certainly try again. Many thanks to our band boosters, Bob & Lyn Essex, Rene & Stephanie Santiago, Marcus & Gwen Baker, and Jeff & Tonya Street for their hard work to get things ready. Also we'd like to thank those parents who also pitched in. Our next performance is October 17...the first PICNIC N POPS concert of the season! More information will shared for this great event in the future.
Give Them Enough Sleep: Helping your child to get enough sleep at night can have a big impact on their cognitive ability the next day at school. According to one study, a loss of one hour sleep is equivalent to (the loss of) two years of cognitive maturation and development. In other words, a 6th Grader would perform in class like a 4th Grader. So how much sleep do your children need? According to another study, 7-12 year olds need 10-11 hours of sleep and 12-18 year olds need 8 ¼ - 9 ½ hours. Have your child adequately rested?
Sickness & Health: To better ensure the health of every child please be reminded not to send your child to school if they are ill—particularly if they are coughing and have a fever. A wide-spread outbreak of influenza or even a single instance of H1N1 will have far reaching consequences for the school’s functioning.
Your Contact Info: Having your correct and current contact information is vitally important to the well-being of your child. Do we have your most up-to-date contact information in case of emergencies? Maybe your cell phone number has changed, or maybe the number you provided to us is no longer the quickest way to contact you. Please ensure that we can keep you informed during emergencies.
It’s a One-Way Street: It is imperative that every driver to and from the school observe the posted signs that govern the flow of traffic. During school hours drivers must only enter the school from Limit Street to Campus Drive—there is no exit from the school to Limit Street, only an entrance. Drivers must exit through the gate leading to Parkway Drive. This is primarily for child safety reasons and thank you for your cooperation.
