Friday Facts 2009-11-24 FRIDAY FACTS BCA’s Weekly Newsletter November 24, 2009
Happy Thanksgiving:
At BCA, when we count our blessings we can’t help but count all our families. Thank you for entrusting you children to us each day. In this issue of the newsletter, we have included some acrostics from our elementary school children (Grades 2 & 3), expressing their thankfulness. When we consider that Paul, in the book of Timothy, tells us that these last days would be marked by ungratefulness (2 Timothy 3:2), these poems take on new meaning.
The 6th & 7th Graders also had a time to give thanks. Last Friday they celebrated Thanksgiving together with a class breakfast. As a time of thanks, each student randomly selected another student from the class to pray for this week and to write a note of appreciation. Notes were given to each student at the breakfast. A big “Thank you” goes out to Mrs. Wendi Miller for coming in and cooking eggs for the class. Also, as a holiday community outreach, the students voted to provide necessary items to SAFE place here in Battle Creek. A list of items that are needed are hanging outside the classroom door if any other families would like to contribute.
In the high school, the students will have a similar project but directed towards helping families at Christmas. You will hear more of this in upcoming issues of the Friday Facts.
Besides family and friends, you may notice that the poetry of the kids also reference nature. The school has made a concerted effort to connect the students with the Creator through this medium. On November 4, the Grade 4 & 5 students put up their bird feeder. They enjoy watching all the birds come and feed. They report, “We have black-capped chickadees, sparrows, purple finches, and some mystery birds of which we are trying to learn the names”. More than this, Last Friday, Mr. Laroach came and presented a special talk on mountain climbing to the 5th graders. Throughout this year he will do four presentations that intertwine adventures and how to be successful in school. Also, the class welcomed Mrs. Sweat who came in to do a special art project with the students. It truly is wonderful when the kids can learn and have fun while doing it.
Did you know that the high school Battle Creek Academy Concert Band won a prize while participating in the Holiday Festival? It’s true, after all the effort of the kids and Band Booster parents they have the “Fantasy Award” to show for it. The music department thanks everyone for their help.
The Band also has a fundraiser that they wish you to be a part of. They are selling NAVEL ORANGES, RED GRAPEFRUIT and TANGERINES. Order will be taken until December 7. Pick-up is Wednesday, December 16, 2-5pm. For details and ordering call the 24-hour fruit line at 269-248-1608 or consult with your favorite BCA band student. This is the tastiest way to fight the cold and flue season. (Honeybells are coming January!). HAVE A
