FRIDAY FACTS

BCA’s Weekly Newsletter

January 15, 2010

Battle Creek Academy is a team of educational professionals dedicated to providing quality Christian education and the transmission of our Adventist values and culture to students of our community. Our Academy is motivated by the positive values coming from a trust relationship with God, service to others, and cultivation of a desire to learn. Excerpt from BCA Mission Statement

Transmitting Adventist values and culture to students is part of BCA’s stated purpose. Certainly, any opportunity for families and the faculty to come together is an occasion to do just this. Whether it is a movie night, a Fall Festival, a Picnic ‘n Pops, a Church service, or an Open Forum, our interactions transmit values. Even if we chose not to have these events, this action would send a lasting message. Identifying values is not very difficult. For example, on Jan 31 we will be hosting Grades K – 1 Fun Night. These families will bring food items for a potluck supper and then play family games together. From this you can tell that BCA values the family unit, and the comparatively healthier home cooking over fast food. As you read, what other value themes can you find? Here are other things that have been happening.

Open Forum: Thank you for attending this event. A special thanks goes to Tracey Hall and the Home & School Association for the meal and the decorations—it was true act of dedication to the Cause of Christ. The feedback forms we received indicated that the forum was indeed important and useful; that it addressed important and relevant issues; that it was well organized; and that it is a feature worth continuing in the future. The Bible makes it clear that, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22). As we follow that divine model we can expect the Lord to grant His wisdom to us.

Wedding Bells! Miss Nelsen wants to share the news that on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 she received the first approval for her fiancé Ron Belyea II to immigrate to Battle Creek, MI.  Miss Nelsen requests your prayers for the next two steps at the National Visa Center (where it could take 2 weeks to 3 months to be processed) and for the Montreal Consulate where the current wait for an interview is 4 to 7 MONTHS.  Miss Nelsen is planning a July 11, 2010 wedding in Battle Creek as long as the immigration process is complete in time.

Preparation for College: The president of Miller College, Dave Harris, came last week and talked with the seniors. He gave them ten tips about succeeding in college, how to manage their time wisely, and how to network with people in order to find a job. One senior remarked that, “He was interesting and I found his advice useful.” The seniors asked good questions and are now even more aware of how to prepare for college life.

Bible Camp: Both the schedule and the guidelines for Bible Camp were distributed to the high school students this week. After reviewing this document please contact the school if there are any comments and questions.

Change in Lunch Program: Previously, we had announced that there would not have been any hot lunch on Tuesday. It turns out that this is true for Mondays, and spaghetti will be served on Tuesday. Bon Appétit!
