Friday Facts 2007-12-07 FRIDAY FACTS
BCA’s Weekly Newsletter
December 7, 2007 Dear Friends,
Each year the Academy has two Weeks of Prayer, one in the fall and another student-led event in the spring. Our fall speaker was Dr. Glen Russell of Andrews University who took time out of his busy teaching schedule to commit to our children. He took a unique approach by coming two weeks ahead of time to meet with the faculty prior to preparing for the daily meetings. He challenged us to be the conduit to continue the wooing process of the Holy Spirit after he was finished, so I invite everyone to keep our young people in special prayer with the hope that those whose hearts have been touched will make a commitment to give their lives to Jesus. A special thanks to all the student participants and Pastor David Tenold for making the arrangements and focusing on the spiritual growth of our children.
The 6th and 7th grade did another marvelous job in Marshall as they praised the Lord with music last weekend. The support team of parents and band boosters overwhelmed our hosts for Sabbath School and church service creating an air of excitement throughout the morning. Again, thank you Miss Stark for all the preparation and giving us the honor of hearing our children use their talents for the Lord.
Speaking of music, the annual Christmas all bands concert was another great success this week. We hope it got the holiday season off on the right foot for all who attended. An elementary Christmas vespers is planned for 7 p.m. Friday, December 14, at the Tabernacle Church; we hope you will take the time to join us but come early as this program can be crowded.
We are entering the season of the year when some individuals get the winter blues. It is estimated that 15 million Americans suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) due to shorter periods of sunlight and colder weather. To minimize the impact of such conditions we should continue to make exercise a priority. Other strategies include getting adequate sleep, managing stress and adding bright lights. Additionally, doing something good for yourself, like massage, keeping a journal of blessings, and if possible a vacation to a sunnier climate, will help carry one through the next three to four months.
Attached to the back of this week's Friday Facts is an important document for your consideration. As we analyze the physical education program we are conducting different measurements and surveys to determine effectiveness. If you are uncomfortable subjecting your child to this process please contact me, as it is an essential piece of the continuation of the Carol M White award.
My congratulations to Luke Penrod, Mathias Tenold and Camden Bowman as each have been award recipients for articles they have submitted to various contests or publications. It’s nice to see our young men utilizing their writing skills in a positive manner.
The newest Alumni Reflections magazine is on newsstands today or in your mailbox by tomorrow. If you don’t get one soon come by the office and pick up a copy.
Have a great Sabbath!
