FRIDAY FACTS
BCA’s Weekly Newsletter
April 25, 2008

Dear Friends,

This is a huge weekend for BCA as we prepare to welcome our Alumni back home.   We hope you’ll join us for all the festivities with a special emphasis on the blessing waiting for us with Elder Walter Wright on Sabbath.

The other big news was the very successful band trip to Toronto. This press release was sent by the U.S. Counsel General to the various media outlets in the area… enjoy and praise God for our children!
Battle CreekAcademy Band Visits Canada
Plays at Tigers/Blue Jays Game

When the Battle CreekAcademy Concert Band decided to go on their first trip outside the United States they chose Toronto, Ontario as their destination.

The 54 student musicians, ranging from 7th to 12th Graders, traveled under the direction of band Director Michele Stark. BCA alumnus and Battle Creek native John Nay, now Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto, and his staff, arranged for the band to perform at three significant public events in Toronto where they impressed large crowds with their professionalism, enthusiasm, and organization.

A tour highlight was the BCA band’s pre-game performance on the field Monday, April 21, just prior to the game between the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays. Happily for Academy band members, the Tigers won 5-1. Blue Jays public events staff member Jordan Cassel called the band one of the best they’ve hosted.

In addition to giving three performances at a Toronto church, the band also gave a special performance at the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo, coinciding with the Zoo’s Family Earth Day event on Sunday, April 20th. The band played on the Courtyard Stage to the delight of on-lookers, adults and children, some of whom danced in time to their music. The Zoo events coordinator told the U.S. Consulate that the zoo frequently hosts high school bands, but that this band was the best they’ve heard there.

Their final performance was for Earth Day at CarletonVillagePublic School in downtown Toronto, where 500 young students gathered in the school yard to listen to the band. Ms. Stark arranged for special demonstrations by each individual instrument, to give students the opportunity to better understand each instrument’s sound quality and how it contributes to an entire band. As a finale, Battle CreekAcademy band played the Canadian national anthem.

Remember our special Constituency Meeting on Monday 6 p.m. @ the gym and keep the 8th grade class in prayer as they tour Chicago this week.

Have a great Alumni weekend!
