FRIDAY FACTS
September 12, 2008

Dear Parents,

Can you believe it? We are already four weeks into the new school year. Things are running smoothly due to solid planning, a remarkable staff, committed families and the Lord’s blessings. As of today we have 79 students in the elementary and 51 students in the high school. The students are cooperative, enthusiastic and interested in utilizing their time wisely – a reflection of being raised in Christian homes.

Mr. Knowles returned from his honeymoon with his lovely bride and BCA alumnus, Mrs. Dorkis Knowles (formerly Reyes), last Monday. Congratulations are in order for this young married couple.  I noticed that Mr. Knowles is already on a schedule to get home by 4:00 pm. (I almost added “or else” to the last sentence, but that may be too cruel.)

Our new staff members are filling their roles nicely. Mr. Acevedo has settled right in as if he has been a part of our staff for years. Mrs. Bradley-Martes, who joined the staff last Tuesday, has figuratively hit the ground running. They both have a great desire to help our students prepare for the future. Mrs. Knutson continues to amaze us with her enthusiasm and energy. Oh, to be young again! If you have some time in the near future you may want to ask her to share two poems she read at our staff worship on Monday. In listening to her worships for the entire week, we as a staff have been blessed by her Godly messages and illustrations. Our 7th and 8th graders are truly very fortunate to have her as a teacher.

The high school students left for the Math/Science field trip on a rainy Monday afternoon.  Mr. Sam Torres, one of the parent sponsors, discovered that the trailer had a flat tire and informed Mr. Johnson of the problem. Thankfully, the tire problem was resolved Tuesday morning and they were able to continue with their plans for the remainder of the trip. Although it may have been just a small incident, we are grateful for the Lord’s protection by not having the tire go flat on the road where there is greater risk involved.

A few weeks ago Ms. Stark made an inquiry about visiting Arlington National Cemetery and placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during Band Tour in the spring. This week Ms. Stark received verification from the Department of the Army giving our school permission to participate in this very solemn and symbolic tradition. Regardless of what we feel about our present military situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, this is one of the few occasions where citizens can show appreciation and understanding of the many “unknown” soldiers who have given their lives for the cause of freedom. I appreciate the awesome experience our students will have by taking part in this special ceremony. And of course, the Band is currently raising funds for their spring tour—see the back of this newsletter for more information.

The Freshman class is having a car wash Friday September 19th. This is the only $3 car wash in town, and their class sponsors guarantee that they’ll do a great job.

Progress continues with the kitchen updates. Most of major work has been completed and I am hoping that Ms. Lavallee will be able to share more good news next week.

Keep the school year in prayer and join me in asking the Lord to reveal His will to us as we draw our children closer to Him. Happy Sabbath!

In His Service,

Mr. Velez
High School Principal
