Friday Facts 2008-09-26 Friday Facts
September 26, 2008
I appreciate your participation in the Constituency Meeting Monday night. If you weren’t able to be there, the focus of the meeting was an overview of the state of the school, a Development report and a financial decision to move forward with an operating budget that reflects a deficit. Even though no one is thrilled with our enrollment numbers this year, we are thankful that we are able to provide another year of quality Christian education.
Last week the K-12 Michigan Conference Board conducted their meeting on our campus. Michigan Conference officers, the Lake Union Conference Education Director, principals, pastors, and lay-people came together for a time of prayer and fellowship as well as the all important business agenda. The topic of enrollment was very much on everyone’s minds since almost all of our state’s academies have had a decrease in enrollment. The decrease in enrollment is not limited to our state. In the Pacific Union Conference, which is the union with the largest number of students in the North American Division, they have a decrease of 1,000 students from last year. And although not all of this information was addressed by the K-12 Board, it was evident that some felt that the economy has had a tremendous impact in the enrollment numbers of our schools this year.
We are more than five weeks into the first quarter. Early next week you should be receiving midterm reports either by mail or in person from your child’s teacher(s). Please remind your children to remain vigilant as it is difficult to make up late work.
Next weekend, on October 4, there will be a youth rally in Lansing entitled Creating for the Creator. Dynamic Pastor David Asherick is scheduled to be the featured speaker. There will also be a creative arts display/activity during the day. Students that wish to attend are encouraged to sign-up in the office. Transportation will be available from the school, if enough students sign up, on a first come first serve basis.
Also next week and weekend, October 2-4, we will be taking 8 of our student leaders to Leadership Retreat, which is another event sponsored by the Lake Union Conference Education Department. This program is designed to provide leaders with additional skills while spiritually preparing them for the difficult task of being in charge while following God’s will.
We are very thankful that our kitchen upgrades have been completed. The high school hot lunch program begins September 29 and the high school classes will finally be able to begin raising funds for their planned activities.

This Tuesday, Dr. Richard Davidson, Professor of Old Testament at the Andrews University Seminary, is going to conduct a special high school chapel from 10:10 to 11:00 am on the topic of “Yom Kippur.” He preached a powerful sermon at the TAB on this topic two Sabbaths ago. We invite any parent or friend of the academy who is able to please come and join us for this special presentation.
As we worship and fellowship together this Sabbath, let’s pray urgently that the Lord will pour out His Spirit so that the work can be completed.
In His Service,
Mr. Vélez
High School Principal
