FRIDAY FACTS
October 17, 2008

Here we are at the end of our first quarter. Students have been working hard and learning so many new things. It is fun to walk down the halls past the different classrooms and hear the lessons going on. We are blessed to have a school like Battle Creek Academy. Through the ups and downs God is an ever-present Helper and Guide here are our school.

Haley Agy won this year’s Fire Safety poster contest. Each year one student from each of the various area schools are chosen to spend time with the fire chief. This year’s theme was making a fire escape plan. Haley was treated to lunch with the fire chief and received a certificate for her drawing. Congratulations, Haley!

Four times this year the elementary students will be doing buddy reading. This consists of students being paired together to spend time reading to each other. Today, students met for the first time with their buddies. Each buddy spent 15 minutes reading to each other. It’s a great time for different grade levels to spend time getting to know each other and the older students to encourage the new readers.

Plan to join us this Saturday night at 7:30 for our fall Picnic-n-Pops program. The band has been working hard preparing for this event. Saturday night the elementary students will be leading out in our school song. Come and lend your voice, purchase some food, and have a wonderful family night. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Home and School would like to remind you that they are collecting metal for recycling. This is one of their big projects again this year. You can drop off your metal at BCA. However, they cannot take household appliances such as refrigerators and washers. If you have additional questions please call Tracey Hall at 517-741-3035.

There are extra cookie dough and popcorn tins available from Home and School. This is a great time to stock up before the holiday season.

Mr. Knowles’ health message for this week:
“What can exercise do for you? Exercise can improve your mood; it can combat against chronic diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Exercise also helps you manage your weight and it strengthens your heart and lungs. How much exercise do we need? Some say ½ hour while others say a full hour. I would recommend getting out and doing the best you can. Anything extra you do is going to help. Exercising is something we want our kids to do for the rest of their lives, shouldn’t we be good examples?”

 Coming events:
            October 19-22 5th and 6th Outdoor Education
October 27 No Elementary School – Teacher In-service

Enjoy the weekend with your family.

In His Service,
