FRIDAY FACTS
November 14, 2008
A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to return to my academy for a class reunion. It was great seeing “old” classmates. As I was visiting, one of the gentlemen asked me where I was teaching. After my response he shared with me his experience interacting with our students while they were on a trip. He said, “You have some fantastic and well behaved students.” I have to agree! We are blessed.
This week brought a change in scheduling as we spent some extra time in search of God’s will. The fall Week of Prayer was presented by the students. The Elementary theme was “Signs of Hope.” To end the special week students gathered in the band room for a Friday afternoon meeting. Pastor Tenold presented a special message of Hope. Students then enjoyed light refreshments.
The High School Week of Prayer was entitled “Joining God’s Army of Youth”. Students spoke on various topics including prayer, studying the Bible, and standing firm for your faith. At the end of each meeting students divided into three classrooms where they spent time praying for specific needs.
I just want to say a special thank you to Ms. Stark and the concert band for the uplifting music presented at the Urbandale Church last Sabbath. It is great to hear the young people using their talents for the Lord. I watched the band take down their things after church and was highly impressed. Band is more than learning to play an instrument. Students are also learning organization, teamwork, efficiency, and courtesy. We are blessed to have this type of a music program at our school.
I am sure by now many of you have heard we experienced a lockdown on Wednesday. We are under a standard operating procedure when it comes to lockdowns. On Wednesday we received a phone call from the police identifying a need for a lockdown. The call from the police is standard procedure for schools when a situation is within a certain radius. I am pleased to report that our staff and students did an excellent job. They followed protocol without a hitch.
Please note that the annual Elementary Christmas Vespers will be on Sabbath, December 6. The program begins at 4:30 PM at the Tabernacle.
We would like to remind you that on Fridays school gets out at 2:10. Sundown is upon us before we know it. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up on time. Thank you for your help.
There is a hot lunch change for Mondays starting November 17. The class will be serving Sub Sandwiches.
