Friday Facts
May 15, 2009
Dear Parents,

This is the last Friday Facts for the 2008-2009 school year. I can honestly say that the Lord has worked miraculously on a daily basis in the operation of the school. I want to thank you all for your prayers and support this year.

Every year we recognize those individuals and organizations whose contributions to our school often go unnoticed, but are greatly appreciated.   We want to extend a special thanks to the Home and School organization for all of their efforts throughout this year, and for the special teacher recognition luncheon last Friday. Their effort made us feel valuable and it was a thoughtful gesture. Another noteworthy volunteer is Mr. Rudy Hall, who has assisted Mr. Johnson with various important projects around the school. We are also very thankful for Mrs. Eastman who has gone above and beyond her regular duties. Recently she has helped to beautify the campus by weeding and planting flowers around the school. We do our best to make sure that no one is left out. Please recognize that there may be   more volunteers whose names were not mentioned.

We are happy to announce the arrival of at least three new babies! Three of four killdeer eggs have hatched as of this writing. One of the nice things about our campus is that we often get to see nature at its best. If you ever have some time, just look outside Mrs. Barrus’ office window and you’ll get a glimpse of the natural sanctuary that is our campus.

This is the time of the year when students are recognized for their performances and/or service to the community. In the elementary, Brandi Campbell and Austin Reed were recognized by the American Legion organization at the WK Kellogg Auditorium. Elementary staff nominated them for the award which is given to students based on good citizenship and academics. In the high school, Katie French was recognized at the Celebration of Academic Excellence at the Kellogg Arena. This is an award that is given to the top 5% of graduating seniors in Branch, Barry, and Calhoun Counties. She received special recognition from Ms. Nelsen who was the educator representing our school. Each year, the North American Division asks student leaders and faculty members at every academy to select a deserving junior or senior student who exemplifies Christian Service. This year’s winner of the Caring Heart Award is our Campus Ministries student director Bradly Bennison. Congratulations to all!

The report from the 8th grade trip was very positive. As usual, the students represented themselves as Christian young people as they toured the greater Chicago land area.  Parents and teachers both commented on what an easy group they were to work with. We look forward to them joining the high school and being a class of distinction.

Last Tuesday the Concert Band performed at the Community Prayer Breakfast. Our band had been invited to perform in the past, not only due to its great reputation in the community, but more importantly, because it is one of the few bands that is able to perform sacred music without political repercussions. Our remaining high school students and most of the high school faculty also had the privilege of attending the program.

The 2008/2009 Bacre Vies are in. This is the first full-color yearbook in our school’s history. We have yearbooks available for purchase for those who did not get one. The cost is $40 and they are available in the school office.
